Calebs Mazda Bounty Is A Popular Target For Car Theft Due To The Value Of The Parts

During a quick visit to the Riccarton mall in Christchurch, thieves took the opportunity to break in and steal Caleb's Mazda Bounty. Fortunately, it was recovered by police a couple of days later, still intact.

Caleb made it his first priority to install a GPS tracker. Groundwings was the perfect solution as it offered real-time alerts to let him know straight away if his vehicle was being tampered with.

Fast forward to a couple of months later when Caleb's ute was again targeted by thieves while parked outside his mate's house late at night. While sitting down inside, Caleb received an alert on his phone that his ute was on the move.

Caleb instantly alerted police, who were able to use the GPS location to immediately locate the ute and catch the thief in the act, who was in the process of removing the transmission from the ute. Any more delay and Caleb's ute would have been nothing more

than a shell. The thieves had gone to the effort to try and locate the tracker by ripping open the dash. But Caleb's choice to use a skilled auto electrician to install the tracker made it impossible to find. The thieves even disconnected the battery, but the tracker's backup internal battery kicked into gear.

Our tracker's ability to connect to different sensors such as the door and ignition allows instant alerts to ensure vehicle recovery or deter theft in the first place.

Our FMC130 was installed in Caleb's ute. The ute has remote door lock/unlock and ignition immobilization. The door open sensor is also connected to the tracker, alerting to a break-in.

These alerts are scheduled to be active at certain times. Caleb opts to receive a text when the vehicle starts to move at all times of the day. During nighttime hours, he will receive an automated phone call if the door is opened or the ute is moving.

A potential future upgrade is a proximity key tag which disables the alerts if Caleb is driving with his keys in the ignition. Alerts become active if the ute moves or the door is opened without Caleb being nearby with the keys. Additionally, the tracker will immobilize the ignition.
